About Wapsie
Wapsie Produce, Inc. is America’s largest producer and marketer of capons. Founded in 1958 by Carl Nichols, Wapsie Produce is managed by his sons Marc and Paul; and his grandsons, BJ and Craig are bringing a third generation of growth to the business. Wapsie Produce works with area growers within a 100-250 mile radius of Decorah. These growers raise Wapsie capons to 17-18 weeks when the famous blue Wapsie trucks roll out to retrieve the birds for processing. Wapsie Produce hand processes its capons under the watchful eye of USDA inspectors and packs under its own Minowa (Extra Fancy Grade A) and Ioma labels, as well as private label for selected companies. Wapsie Produce also runs an experimental farm, locally known as the Capon City. Wapsie Capons are shipped from coast to coast. This seasonal business begins each spring with delivery of the newly hatched roosters and production is staggered throughout the fall to meet the busy holiday demand. |
